I set off in plenty of time to cycle to the start which was Cannon Hill Park. There were a few stands to peruse including free gatorade but after grabbing a few bottles, the panniers were starting to feel heavy.
I got to the start line and there were so many kids and adults without helmets. Why do people risk it?
There were some real brats there as well complaining about people being slow. It's meant to be fun... I got slightly annoyed at adults that weaved back and forth and kept cutting me up, but hey ho - you always get rude inconsiderate people and they probably drive like that as well.
The route headed out of Cannon Hill Park and along the shut roads past the Cricket ground and along the Pershore Road to town. It headed into the Birmingham Markets building, out and around the Bull Ring and back through the Rag Market building and back onto the Pershore Road.
There were 3 start points and the route wasn't packed, so I felt it was a well thought out plan. Plenty of places to stop and plenty of toilets (though I wasn't desperate enough to use a porta loo).
I got back to Cannon Hill park in enough time to see Lorraine Kelly and Victoria Pendleton. I was a bit disappointed that they weren't on their bikes and doing the route.
I had my picnic and pootled back home.
The weather was dry but cloudy. A bit of a waste of time putting on the sun tan lotion, but hey ho.
